See here for some information I have come across about residencies. This term has become very vague in recent years, but I use it to describe a location with studio and accomodation, and – hopefully – with a few bob.
The Tyrone Guthrie Centre Annaghmakerrig
Based in a country house in the midlands of Ireland. This is a long established ‘creative retreat centre’ running residencies for writers and artists. They have just added facilites for printmaking. Returning artists give mixed reports – its’ all very communal, shared dining etc. May not suit everyone!. http://tyroneguthrie.ie/Homepage
A spectacular location at the edge of the Atlantic on the Southwest Coast of Ireland. Returning artist give great reports of the scenary. More mixed on the social life – its a fairly wild spot. There is also an application fee. But they do seem to have a lot of open slots.
